Overview
Charts in the Project Insights are for getting a quick, visual read on how a Project is performing without having to dig through the raw task list. You will have access to the KPI section with headline numbers and three overview charts (Task PPC, Task Status distribution, and Variance Reason distribution) plus additional full-width charts like the PPC trend, viewable as either a line by week or a bar by team.
You can find the Charts in two places in your Project: in any of the Project Workspaces and in the Project Dashboard itself.
- Workspace - click on the pie chart icon on the top left menu bar; the default view
- Project Dashboard - click on the Open Insights button; the default tab
Use the filters on the right-hand side panel to narrow the scope of the report you wish to see from the Charts. You can also hide the filters by clicking on the funnel icon on the top right to see a wider view of the charts.
- Modified Since – narrow results to elements changed since the selected date to best see most recent updates
- Workspace (visible only from Dashboard) – narrows the scope of data to one or few selected specific Workspace(s)
- Team – filters to elements assigned to a specific Team
- Assignee – filters to elements assigned to a specific person in the Project Collaborators list
- Status – filters by planning status (Unplanned, Planned, Committed, Complete, Incomplete)
- Label – filters by individual Labels
- Category – filters by Categories of Labels; also used to filter by Swimlanes
If you program the the view of your Charts, adding filters for a specific view, you can use the link or QR code icons on the top left of the window to preserve your filters and save presets of the Chart view. Open the link in a new tab or window of your browser or scan the code on your mobile phone to bookmark it on either platform.
KPI
The KPI section provides a dashboard overview of the following data points:
- Tasks
- Milestones
- Constraints
- Task PPC
- Milestone PPC
- Uncommitted Tasks (Unplanned and Planned)
- Tasks Past Due
- Constraints Past Due
- Unpromised Constraints
The pie charts reflect data from the three other Charts in this section of the Insights, including a checkbox to show a color legend. The Charts will adjust as the filters are programmed.
PPC
PPC (Percent Plan Complete) measures the percentage of Tasks committed for a given week that were actually completed as planned. It's the core metric of the Last Planner System methodology and gives teams a reliable signal of how well their planning commitments are being met over time.
In V4, the calculation is more precise than it was in V3: a Task now contributes to PPC only in the week it's actually completed, rather than counting toward every week it spans. Future Tasks are also excluded — only completed weeks factor into the score, so a date range set entirely in the future shows PPC as not applicable.
Please note that Tasks in an Unplanned State do not count toward PPC calculations.
Toggle the views of the section by clicking on the “By Week” dropdown to change it to “By Team” to show PPC calculations per Team or “Side by Side” to show both the By Week line graph and the By Team bar graph.
Adjust the date range of this section by clicking on the Calendar icon on the top left and clicking on an available start date and navigating the calendar to click on an available end date. The range you select will now show in dark blue boxes.
Status
The Status chart shows how many Tasks fall into each status per week, across your Project or selected date range. Hover over any point or colored area to see a crosshair with the exact values for that week. The colored sections correspond to the different statuses:
- Dark Gray – Unplanned
- Light Gray – Planned
- Yellow – Committed
- Green – Complete
- Red - Incomplete
Toggle the views of the section by clicking on the “By Week” dropdown to change it to “By Team” to show a per team breakdown of Task statuses or “Side by Side” to show both the By Week line graph and the By Team bar graph.
Adjust the date range of this section by clicking on the Calendar icon on the top left and clicking on an available start date and navigating the calendar to click on an available end date. The range you select will now show in dark blue boxes.
Variance Reason
The Variance Reasons chart breaks down Tasks marked Incomplete by the reason recorded for each one — the standardized explanations defined in the Project Control Center for why committed work didn't go as planned. It gives you a quick read on the recurring causes behind missed commitments (material delays, weather, access issues, etc., depending on what your Project's variance reason list includes), rather than just the raw count of Incomplete Tasks.
Toggle the views of the section by clicking on the “By Week” dropdown to change it to “By Team” to show a per team breakdown of Variance Reasons or “Side by Side” to show both the By Week line graph and the By Team bar graph.
Adjust the date range of this section by clicking on the Calendar icon on the top left and clicking on an available start date and navigating the calendar to click on an available end date. The range you select will now show in dark blue boxes.
