Add Swimlane
Video 1. Add and Set Up Swimlanes.
To better organize your project and create separate sections for each project area, you can create additional Swimlanes within one Pull Planning Workspace as long as you are an admin of the Workspace (or if your admin has allowed you to do so).
- On the Plan Settings Bar in the top center of your Pull Plan, click on the three-dot menu
-
Click on Settings
-
Expand the Swimlane Settings section
-
Click the Add Swimlane button
-
Type your desired Swimlane Name(s) and separate them by comma
-
Click on the Next button
-
Click on the Edit button to change the colors of the Swimlane and add Swimlane Labels
- Click the Finish button

Adjust Swimlane
You can adjust the size of your Swimlane to either allow more or less visible space, which can hide or show Tasks and provide an indicator, telling you how many Tasks are hidden below the visible field.
Figure 2. Resize Swimlane and reveal hidden elements.
-
Hover your cursor over the bottom of the Swimlane you want to adjust until a yellow line appears
- Click and drag it up and down to adjust the size of the Swimlane
Additionally, you can click on the hidden Task indicators at the bottom of the Swimlane to have Hoylu automatically adjust the size of the Swimlane so the Tasks are visible again.
Collapse Swimlane
You have two options to collapse a Swimlane: to the yellow adjustment line up until it turns red or to use the Swimlane settings.
Figure 3. Collapse Swimlanes options.
-
Hover your cursor over the bottom of the Swimlane you want to adjust until the yellow line appears
-
Raise it up toward the Swimlane header
- When the yellow line turns red, release the line
The second option would be to click on the Collapse icon on the Swimlane bar as depicted in Figure 3.
Expand Swimlane
In the same way that there are two ways to expand a collapsed Swimlane, you have two options to expand it again.
Figure 4. Expand Swimlanes options.
-
Hover your cursor between the collapsed swimlane header and the Swimlane below it until the yellow line appears
- Click and drag the yellow line down to your desired placement to reopen the Swimlane
The second option would be to click on the Expand icon on the Swimlane bar depicted in Figure 4.
Swimlane Menus
Video 2. Swimlane Settings.
You can always return to the Plan Settings to modify the Swimlanes, but you can also do it directly from the Swimlane bars on the left side of the Pull Plan or by right-clicking into the open Swimlane area, where you can find more options to help you organize your Tasks. You can also click on the three dot menu in the floating Timeline bar.
Figure 5. Additional Swimlane Menus.
- If you have a hard time seeing all your Tasks, use Clean up, Clean up & resize, or Clean up & resize all to have Hoylu organize all your Tasks.
- Use Select all tasks, Select tasks after, and Select tasks before to easily multi-select a large amount of Tasks within that Swimlane and either shift, status, or delete them. (See this article for more information multi-selecting objects within a Plan.)
- If you're no longer using a Swimlane but still want the data from the Tasks that sit in it, use Collapse so you can shorten your Plan and improve navigation. This button will change to Expand when your Swimlane is collapsed.
- Change the orientation of your Swimlanes by using the Move Up and Move Down options.
- Use Add Above and Add Below to insert new Swimlanes on the fly.
- Use Open in Weekly Work Plan and Open in Insights Panel to open that specific week's data.
- Use Swimlane Settings to get back to the main Swimlane Settings in the Plan Menu Bar.
- Use the Remove weeks before and Remove weeks after to reduce the size of the timeline and remove unneeded data. (See this article for more information about modifying weeks.)
- Delete the Swimlane if you no longer need it, but remember it will remove all Tasks in that Swimlane and return them to your Task Inbox in the Assets Panel. Be cautious when clicking this option.
Swimlane Labels
Turning on Swimlane Labels can add new layers of value to your Pull Plan. Not only do they help with visibility as the Plan grows larger and larger, but they allow you to move Tasks back and forth between Swimlanes and will enhance the .CSV import process so Hoylu can send Tasks directly to their Swimlane. To learn more about this .CSV import, click here.
Figure 6. Show Swimlane Label on Tasks.
-
Click on the three dot menu in the Plan Settings Bar
-
Select Plan Settings in the dropdown menu
-
Open the Label Interactivity section in the Plan Settings popup
- Click the switch for Show Swimlane Label on Elements so it turns blue
If you have Tasks that you need to move to another Swimlane, you can always drag and drop them, but this can grow increasingly difficult if you have a lot of Swimlanes. Hoylu lets you use these Swimlane Labels to send Tasks to other Swimlanes with much less effort.
Figure 7. Use Swimlane Labels to move Tasks.
-
Click on the Swimlane Label of a Task you want to move
- Select the new Swimlane to which you would like to send the Task
😎 Pro Tip: You can also use the Swimlane settings to Select all tasks at once and use the label to move them all to another Swimlane, as depicted in Figure 7.
