Users can follow these steps to export from MS Project into excel (.xlsx) format, then save as .CSV format to then import the file into Hoylu!
- Begin the Export. Open the desired MS Project file
- Click File in the top-left corner
-
Select Export
- Click Save Project as File
- Select Save
- Enter a name in the Project Name field (ensure that Excel Workbook is selected as the file format before saving)
- Click Save
- When the Export Wizard pops up, click Next
- Choose Selected Data and then click Next
-
Create or Use an Existing Map. If this is your first time doing this you will need to create a New Map. To create a new export template, click New Map
- Be sure to save the mapping once you have completed the new mapping process to streamline future exports. This will allow you to select Use Existing Map the next time you perform this process
- Click Next
- Configure Export Settings. Under Select the data you want to export, choose Tasks
- Under Microsoft Excel Options, check Export with headers
- Click Next
Now you can configure the worksheet and select the columns to be included in the export. Use the dropdown under 'From Microsoft Project Field' to choose each field you would like to map. We recommend adding as many of the following fields, or similar equivalents, as your project contains:
Activity ID
WBS Code
WBS Name
Resource (Contractor Name)
Task Name
Scheduled Duration
Scheduled Start
Scheduled Finish
Predecessor
Successor
😎 Pro Tip: Look for a designated location field, such as Area, Zone, Floor, or most commonly WBS Name. This can be used as your Swimlane in Hoylu. The more detailed information you export from MS Project, the more accurate your import will be within Hoylu.
- To export a specific date range, open the Export Filter on the right side, dropdown and select Date Range
✏️ Note: A pop-up will appear at the end of the export process to define the range
- Now, finalize the Export and click Next
- Enter a Map Name. In this case you can call it 'Hoylu Map' or something similar to use for future exports
- Click Save
- Click Finish to complete the export
As a final step, select the date range you would like to export. First, choose the Start Date and click OK. Then, select the End Date and click OK to complete the range
- You excel export is now complete. However, there are a few additional steps.
✏️ Note: Before importing your file into Hoylu, open the exported Excel file to verify that all information has been captured correctly. Once confirmed, be sure to save the file in .CSV format, as this is the required format for importing into Hoylu. See additional steps (22 - 24) below.
-
Open the new Excel file
-
Click on File, then Save As
-
Click on the .CSV (Comma delimited) option and click Save
